The Andechs Monastery - famous for its pilgrimage church and its beer
A delight for the body and soul
For centuries, Andechs Monastery has attracted pilgrims and has become well-known as a cultural center as well as for its seven varieties of Andechs Monastery beer and for its gastronomy. Beer tasting is offered for groups after a brewery tour in the “Bräustüberl”, the traditional Bavarian pub, and for individual travelers in the monastery restaurant “Klostergasthof”, where beer can be enjoyed together with Bavarian dishes. This is really an experience not to be missed! Even the liqueurs, produced locally in the distillery of Andechs Monastery, are well-worth a taste. Tour groups can take a tasting tour of the distillery.
There are also cultural highlights taking place on The Holy Mountain as
well: the famous composer Carl Orff (Carmina Burana) is presented in the “Orff in Andechs Festival”, which is held during the summer season in the “Florian Stadl”, close to Orff’s grave in the pilgrimage church. A visit of the baroque style pilgrimage church with a guided tour is a must when visiting The Holy Mountain. One should really take their time here to relax and enjoy the spirit found at Andechs Monastery.
