2009 B8 S4 front belts all snapped
Hi guys,
I bought a B8 S4 about 4 months ago, and it's been running very well. On my way home on Monday all of a sardine I lost power steering, lights came on saying the alternator wasn't charging and a few other things. I was a couple hundred metres from home so idled into the parking and switched off as soon as I can.. popped the hood, and the engine bay was full of pieces of wire and rubber. Turns out all the belts right in front snapped and tore themselves to shreds.
The car is now at the dealer, and it does have a FSH at Audi, with the last visit on 29 April this year. But I'm a bit confused as to how this could happen? Surely the belts needed to be replaced at some point? How can it go from being in 'no need to replace' condition to shredded in 4 months? The dealer I bought it from said when I picked the car up that it had been 'recently serviced', but the service history's last mention of a service was at 60,000km.. there are visits logged after that for 'general maintenance' a few times after that but there are no specifics.
Do these belts break often? Could it be something else that caused the belt to break, thereby breaking the others as well?
I really don't know much about cars so any advice would be appreciated
