With all the mention lately about drive shaft alignment issues, any feedback on the 1-piece units?
 

I saw one on Advanced Automotion's website for under $400. I'm sure most DS shops could make one as well with the correct end splines.

Perhaps a little simplistic but with a 1-piece wouldn't the alignment get accomplished with the CV re-installation? Any pros/cons with 1 piece vs. 2 piece?

i dont know if it can the motors on our cars are actually mounted at an angle
 

so you need that bend to keep the shaft in its current position up and out of the way

But nicks comments seem about right. The split shaft must be in there for packaging reasons right? Why else would such a design be used?

Though it would seem much easier to replace with that $400 straight driveshaft and eliminate that variable when the center bearing carrier goes south. Does anyone know what the circumstances are?

that if audi requires the shaft be put in a jig to be mounted perfectly straight, a one piece would be ok. I would be interested if I could get one without too much trouble.

There are a few Audi's with single piece shafts on them
 

I know toxic had one or built one for a friend.

As long as alignment issues aren't there the only problem with single units is they may have a vibration at lower RPMS, it's the nature of a long rotating member.

That being said the few folks I know that did it had no issues. SO for 400 buxs that is less expensive than dealing with a rebuild of the two piece!

Scott at Advanced Automotions says he can make them. Group buy anyone????
 

He said he has 2 versions, normal, which is 8 lbs lighter than stock and a lightweight which is 13 (???)lbs lighter. He says he has made plenty of one piece units for lots of different makes and has never had any issues with them.

The difference with the two shafts he offers is the lightweight one would be more susceptable to damage from hitting road debris, rocks, etc. Both will withstand high HP/TQ applications. Anyone interested in a group buy? He said it would probably be 10-20% discount depending on how many were in for it.

Any estimate of what the starting price would be?

20% discount makes final price $320. That is with no CVs.
