On Board Diagnostics Through Climate Control
 

I remember on my 100 there was a way to use the climate control to access any DTC's. I believe the 93 S4 has the same climate control, can anyone confirm? I'm going to look at a possible UrS4 next weekend, and would like to browse through and see if anything is stored. Is there any way to clear any stored codes to see if they are recurring? Or is this only possible through VAGCOM? Thanks for any input!

However, be warned, the codes are only for the climate control unit not the engine.

For engine codes you need a VAGCOM or be able to blink out the codes. That said unless the seller is super honest, he could easily clear the codes before you see the car by pulling the ECU fuse or disconnecting the battery, etc.
