Default Bosch Tri-Electrode Spark plugs....

So what is the current thought on these spark plugs from 034 motorsport. The few threads I read seemed to say they might not last as long, 3K miles, Javad had said more like 12K.

Anybody else tried them? Good Bad.... indifferent?

Time to do the plugs as I am unsure when the PO had done them.

thanks

jeff

Why run anything but the Audi recommended plugs?

People will spend unlimited amounts of money on mods but heaven forbid buying a coil or spark plug.

Default yeah I'm rying to save money... started using vegetable oil instead of synthetic....

seriously the corn oil works best...

The 70 bucks isn't gonna kill me....not trying to 'cheap out' - I know not to skimp on the regular maintenance (also own a 535i for 10+ years)...I've already bought coils, done a lot of maintenance and haven't done any mods (except for HID's and DRL delete and S6+ rear tailights).

Like many others I am accumulating a closet full of stuff for future mods. I had come across these things on the 034 site and I think it was VR_Life that had tried these out.... was just curious as to the collective wisdom of the board if anyone else had used them and would like to share there impressions/experience.

There was one thread (link attached) where there was no pinging with a MTM 1+ chip (on 91 octane) compared to the stock F5DPOR plugs which did produce pinging. Attributed to a better spark with the copper electrode. (UR_mainblack)

The main drawback seemed to be that they 'might' not last as long and need to be replaced more often.

As to the motor oil... I run Mobil 1 and change every 3500 miles.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4s6/msgs/127608.phtml</a

with those high output coils it'd probably run just fine on autolites

Default My comments were not directed at you or anybody in general. I hope you did not take offense.

I just have seen alot of comments about the cost of coils and spark plugs on here over the years. I think the general consensus is that the stock stuff works the best on coils and plugs. Hey but I run that vegetable oil in my truck and it works great, good luck with it. =)

Default You're probably right.

BUT - if a cheaper solution that works can be found, why not? Or a solution that won't get obsoleted in a few years...

How long do you think Audi is going to make the stock coils/POS units? And those stock plugs - at $15 a shot, and who knows how long *they'll* be in production...

If your car is modded at all, then the stock set-up is probably the best. If it's bone-stock, the tri-electrodes run by 1.8T coils will probably work just fine.
