Check those spark plug torque values every 5k, or else
To all with a chipped S4/S6:
I had never heard this until I just about did some really serious damage to my head (did not, thank God). But the act of chipping these motors can cause the spark plugs to come loose, especially on the 2 cylinders closest to the firewall. Mine came really loose and were wobbling, nearly tore out the threads entirely (would have required a new head). I had no idea, as this never happened on my '91 200TQ avant, which I had also chipped (but sold). But it is recommended to check them every 3,000 - 5,000 miles, torque them to 18-21 ftlbs. And when at the track, check them after nearly every circuit. Robert 1995.5 S6 avant, IA stage III + chip |
22lb-ft - check 'em often even if you're not chipped
They tend to loosen even when you're running stock boost levels.
