Default Coil testing part II

This time around, I laid the coil pack on the valve cover and made sure all 5 plugs were touching metal for ground and I got crisp blue sparks from all 5 plugs.. hmmmm. Bad POS maybe?

The pursuit is still on.

Default Not enough. (edit - link added)

Since most bad coils tend to misfire at higher boost, your test is inconclusive. Buy a spark tester and test each plug separately, gradually widening the tester gap. See if one won't jump as far as the others.
Don't forget to unplug the injectors.

There is a more thorough write-up on Audifans.com in the S list archives.<ul><li><a href="http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/S4_Ignition.htm">This might be a little more help (SJM)</a></li></ul>

Default One way to know if it's the PS or coil .....

.... is to find someone with another S4/S6 and swap out the entire top set of 5 coils. Put his on you car, drive hard a little., and if you have full boost again, then you know it's the coil and not the POS. If it still stutters at high bosst, then it's the POS.

i saw that write up but it also says to disconnect all 4 coils that are not being tested. Does that mean i have to cut the wires off on all 4 coils while testing the other? I don't feel like doing that yet. Or maybe I can buy 5 tester and do 'em all at once.

Hmmm. Honestly, I doubt I would bother, I'd just stick a spark plug in each of the four untested.
