Default Dave I got the Chassis number from a local urS6

the strange thing is he cant find his vin number but the chassis number is exactly where you said it should be.

The Chassis number indicates it was built in Germany the model year indicates its a 1995 car and the last 6 digits suggest it was built in late 1994 however the details on the registration papers say its a 1996 model purchased at the end of 1995. This suggests a long shipping period or a long time waiting to be sold anyway point it I don't think the early urs4/6's were built here.

I have been planning to take a trip to the factory for a while now and this is another excuse to go and have a look at the Rothmans 700hp S4 they have there.

What made you think the Cars may have been built here?

Default Thanks. I just thought that if Audi had to invest in a right hand driver factory to ....

get around SA import tax laws that they might have decided to build all the right hand drive cars for the UK, Australia, Thailand, Japan, etc.

Apparently it is common outside of North America to NOT have a VIN but to use the chassis number as the "VIN" equivalent. Or so I have been told.
