Fuel pump brand, Bosch or VDO/Siemens or doesn't it matter?

My pump started whining the other day (with 2/3rds of a tank), today it hesitated 1/2 through an intersection like it was running out of fuel and in the past week I've been sporadically getting the codes:
00537 "Lambda (Oxygen Sensor) Regulation 11-10 - Control Limit Not Reached - Intermittent"

00553 "Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70) 07-00 - Signal too Low"

Both seem they can be thrown from fuel pressure problems according to the Bentley.

Lastly the fuel filter has been recently changed as well.

Believe it or not this question gets asked at least every two months.

I searched and couldn't come up with anything conclusive...

Try the link inside. Bosch or VDO/Siemens are equal as 091G suppliers.

Yeah I saw that...and I can get both for the same price from different suppliers...

...just didn't know if one was preferred over the other. I used Bosch pumps in the 90s I've had and they were just fine (quiet, never had a problem, etc).

I'm staying away from the Pierburgs though as I've heard nothing but horror stories from the B3/B4 crowd.

I love my Pierburge pumps in my V8's.....

....no noise, or hassles from them.
I recomend them...they say Made In Germany on the box...

SCarGo02 09-19-2007 03:32 PM

Well, the places I've looked so far don't even list'm for the urS...so...moot point.

8A0 906 091G (43 mm dia) is common to 1990-1997 80, 90, 100, A6, S4, S6.

SCarGo02 09-19-2007 05:54 PM

Oh, no I found the pump. Hadn't found any Pierburgs as of when I posted. Blau has'm though...

...FAP99 had the VDO/Siemens for $115 so I went for that one since your writeup said it was the typical OEM supplier.

Don't know which brand is in my S6 at the moment but somehow it made it well over 200k mi...so I can't complain.

For the money difference I would pass on Pierburg and go VDO/Siemens or Bosch. I am running...

a Bosch right now but the previous pumps were VDO and the VDO/Siemens. The first one died. The second one was fine - I just wanted to try the Bosch. No big difference noted.
