How far is the timing off IF it was set using the mark on the front dampner and not the flywheel?

I just read the SJMautotechnik procedure and saw it noted that timing should be set off the flywheel TDC mark.
So how far off is the front mark on the cover/dampner?
TIA!!

Good luck finding the flywheel mark. You are fine the way you are.

Dont use crank pulley

it can be off a tooth in either direction. the crank pulley was never meant to be used on these cars. it happened to me. no damage but stumbled above 5k rpms. mine was one advanced.

So, are the camshaft dowels supposed to exactly face each other when flywheel is TDC?

Just not much info out there on setting up the camshafts w/ the crank or flywheel.

Cams are at TDC....

Now just pull that first spark plug, put a stick down the hole touching the piston and turn the crank back and forth a little bit to find the highest point. Don't spin the crank all the way with no belt on there. Hopefully you're close and don't need to turn it far.
