Default Lift points, jack stand points

Tonight I needed to get under the car to inspect my drive shaft. I think I've got a dry front CV joint. More on that later. Before I jacked it up I searched here and didn't find anything I was real comfortable with except this post by AZSantorin. So, I took some pictures after following his advice.

First I drove the car up on my Rhino Ramps:

Then I jacked up the rear of the car using the rear, outside, forward A-arm mount:

Here's a close-up:

Here's a shot from under the car, wiht an arrow indicating the beefy suspension mount I used a lift point:

And one more shot from under the car:

I lifted the car pretty high, so I did it in stages. I lifted one side to the lowest point on the adjustable jack stands. Then I moved to the other side and lifted it, to the first detent, then moved back to the first stand to lift it two more detents (one above the second stand.) Finally, I moved back to the first jack stand to move it up another detent equal with the second one. I lowered in in the reverse order. The lift point is pretty narrow, about the width of the jack stand tops. It wouldn't take much for it to slip.

Because I'm such chicken, I redundantly placed two other stands beneath the innermost rear A-arms next to the pivot point. I should have put it a litte more outboard as I've noted on the photo.

Weird. I usually just lift it up with one arm and do the work with the other.

Default BTDT, but a little higher...

I usually jack under the factory jack points (w/ rubber pad). Stands go various places depending on what I'm doing. In that pic they are on the innermost part of the rear control arms, and actually I forget exactly where they are on the front.

Default You the guy who trashed the RC51?

C-money,

You the dude who trashed the Honda RC51?

Do you miss it. I had a buddy who owned one for a while and thought the bars were too low and uncomfortable for regular use.

I've always liked them and thought that I should grab one some day soon and stick some Heli bars on it since I'm such an old fart.

Would you get another?

Default I LOVED it. I'd get another in a split second.

I rode that thing 8,000 miles in 6 months. Spent a LOT of time on it. I took it down to Cape Code on the 4th of July with a tank bag and a light backpack. It was pretty uncomfortable... an aftermarket seat is a must. I don't remember the discomfort though, just how amazing a bike that was. I remember that thing being so damn stable all the way through corners.

I was going to get rearsets and clip-ons to help the ergos because I rode it so much, but the bike never made it to that stage.

That being said, I'm not sure what I'll get next. I may take a season off and save up money for a Duc 1098. I've always wanted a Ducati. Or, maybe I'll try to find a cheap 748 and save my money for a reliable car (probably the smarter thing to do). I'd like to ride a modern 600 I4 before I make any decisions. I hear they're amazing, and they are somewhat appealing to me... but twins really float my boat. If I come across a cheap SP2 in good shape I'll probably ****** it up.

Default I borrowed the front ones. They were I think the 6 ton craftsman model.

Perfect for doing the clutch, way too tall otherwise.
