no start...stranded...thoughts?

This blows. Car won't start and has stranded me in the Sears parking lot. Although I have not driven it much since, it seemed to be running fine after a bunch of recent work (which included coil conversion/034 harness). Idled smooth, plenty of power. However, I noticed the check engine light came on and then went off yesterday during a brief drive. Today it cranked quite a while before it fired up. Drove it about ten minutes and all seemed fine, although the light came on again. Went into a store and came out and it won't start. Cranks but no fire. Fuel pump is relatively new and sounds like it is working (fuse it good too).

I know it's difficult to diagnose remotely, but since we know it's not likely to be fuel pump or coil/pos and based on the fact it was running fine moments ago, I thought there might be some helpful suggestions. The Sears has an internet cafe, so I thought I would give this a shot in the unlikely event of a quick fix.

Never should have let AAA expire...

Anyone else think that Cam Positions Sensors should be on a pre-emptive maintenance list?

UrS4boy 12-15-2008 11:13 AM

Depending on your weather, it is possible that when the CPS cools down you *might* get another

chance. However, you already thumbed your nose at the Audi gods by not checking the CELs that you had already, i.e. you should have pulled the codes. Since you ignored the subtle but real warnings, the Audi Gods may just squash you like a bug. Hello Mr.Flatbed Towing.

I love you guys:-)

So get this, I go back out there and still no start. I open the hood and give the CPS area of the cam cover a whack, get in and it fires up. I drive home without incident or even a check engine light...grinning all the way. The Audi gods may have cut some slack for all the money I have put in their coffers lately.

I failed to mention that during the head rebuild I recently did, the CPS 3-pin connector got smashed and in my haste I Gorilla Glued it back together rather than replace the connector (or better yet the whole sensor).

So, this leaves me with a question. Is it likely that the sensor itself is no good (even though it started again) or do I just have a connection issue?

Thanks for help, that definitely saved me a tow.

New Male three pin connector is 443 906 247 (without pins) (see inside)

So, CPS ok just replace the connector?
