Oil Consumption AAN

Hello

I have a 1983 Urq with an AAN in it. Seems like I'm having to add oil at an unsually high interval....like weekly (1/2 to 3/4 quart)when car is driven only few days per week.

Wanted to get some input from you guys/gals with the same motor. Are you adding this much or is this normal for the turbo I5 with ~170k miles on it??

Am I going to need a ring job??

Thanks

I have a 95 S6 and I might put in 1/2 quart every thousand miles or so.

This S6 blew a timing belt before I bought it about 2 years ago so it has an engine re-build. Also has a Hoppen stage 1+.

Ever see any signs of the oil making its way out the back? Mine was consuming on startup (very tired stem seals) which slowed down a lot after I adressed the PCV system and switched from a Bosch oil filter (which I've been using for the past 4 years) to either Meyle or Fram synth-guard or some such name. Car was putting out a small blue puff on hot-start and a faint but distinctive cloud at full boost and high revs.

Good luck sorting it out!

Compression and/or leakdown test?

Try a cartch can 1st.

Assuming no leaks, I'd try the oil filter first cuz it's the cheapest, and it that fails try a catch can. Next up is the turbo. If it's rings or valve stem seals the plugs will be oily. If they're not save the money and time of replacemnet.

Yeah, that's pretty high oil use....I typically use about 1L between oil changes (around 6 or 7K kms)
