Is it OK to mix mineral and synthetic PS hydraulic fluid?
The previous owner had used mineral (Febi brand from Blauparts) hydraulic fluid for the PS system. The car has a small leak from the rack and I'm losing small amounts of fluid every month (I need to top off the fluid every 2 months or so). I have ran out of the Febi mineral fluid and I only have 2 liters of synthetic Pentosin that I purchased before I knew what PS fluid was in the car. Can I mix them? Is one more advantageous than the other? If I cannot mix them, then I assume that I would need to flush the system before using the Pentosin? Any help would be appreciated.

ya, i hope i dont offend anyone but there is this audi shop
by my house. all of the mechanics have been audi mechanics for years, and have all these certificates of working for dealerships and what not on the wall. and they only use the 7.1 stuff. have been for years, i knwo a lot of the guys on the forum preach 11S but i think 7.1 is fine.
i think in Dwangs case he should flush it and add 11S if he wants to keep buying it to fill it up, and since he has 2 liters that would be what id do.

It could hurt if the PS system was designed to work with synthetic.
Mineral PS fluid is NASTY stuff.
But if the system is designed to work with mineral first, I don't think it should be a problem. But don't take my word for it.
