Default Outside temp reads -26F

After installing new spark plugs, fuel filter and fresh synthetic oil & filter last week, the idle has smoothed out a bit but still randomly surges between 850 and 1000 rpm. The POS and coil packs were tested fine as well as the injectors. Hoses also checked out so I'm at a bit of a loss on this but not overly concerned just yet as it runs quite well for the most part. Will go back and re-read the troubleshooting threads when I have more time.

This morning a new item came up in my list of minor issues. I looked down at the outside temp gauge about half way through my 60 mile commute to see that the reading was no longer around 46F but was now fluctuating between -25F and -27F.

I'm guessing the external sensor may have given up the ghost. I did search the forums but most of the hits were engine temp related.

Any thoughts on this?

Default Update to ambient air temp reading

It seems that the external temp reading fluctuates from actual temp down into the negative 40's when it's raining or very foggy/misting.

I figured I'd need to check for a worn or loose connection. Today, as I walked to my parked car I noticed a small black cable hanging down under the front valance. Looks as though it should be connected to something. Rather than try to effect repairs in the Target parking lot, I tucked it up under the belly pan and drove home. The strange thing is that the ambient temp gauge is working fine, so I'm wondering if this cable is for something else!

Any thoughts before I crawl under there tomorrow?

TIA,
Bill

Yeah, I think there's a place it fits in down near the grill pieces, a bit towards the drivers side.

On my S4 it was always dangling too. I was missing grill pieces and had to be zip-tied or something, because the correct way was busted.
