RS2 trans vs b5 s4 trans
anyone know if there is a major difference between these two trans? can i b5 s4 trans hold up alot of power if so how much can it handle.
(MiniMan how do you like your trans and can it hold the power , awd launches etc??)

Hard launching is just abuse. The RS2 CRB tranny has a wider first gear on a shaft that is designed
to flex (give, twist) a bit under a hard launch so as to take up/mitigate some of the violent forces that could otherwise chip bits of the first gear teeth (called "galling").
This wide, flexible first gear had a PN of 01E 311 105 H
The B5 S4 transmission has a wide but NOT flexible shaft first gear:
01E 311 105 J
You do the math.
Hard launches = vehicle abuse/lack of respect.

Don't believe me. Read up on the issues here.

Check out the B5 S4 forums. Those transmissions are bullet proof, aside from 1-2 syncro.
The 1-2 syncro commonly lets go from abusive drivers trying to power shift instead of slowly engaging the gear (giving the syncro more time to compensate for the difference in shaft speeds).
RS2 transmissions are practically unobtanium and more expensive, so the choice is simple, IMHO.
