Its the transceiver that allows the narrow body radio to talk to and control the Sony.....
 

"Blaupunkt" 10 disc changer. The silver box is NOT needed to for the wide body S6 radio to control the Alpine 6 disc changer.

There are lots of Sony 10 disc changers out there that could work with the narrow body S4 and early S6 radios. HOWEVER, they will NOT work unless you have the magic silver transceiver box.
