Default Suspension and Ride

I know i posted somthign about this before, my shocks feel very, very tight compared to my 5000, my friends volvos (new and old) and basically every other car ive ever been in, even the newer A4s i test drove. At hi speeds it is smooth, never any vibration or anything, if i push the car down you can tell how tight they are and the car just comes back up without bouncing or anything, but it seems i get a little bit of rattling on the road, is this just from the suspension being tight and i feel every little thing? because on a smooth road (which is hard to find!) it seems to be good, but it just seems i get more vibration than in a newer a4 or a6. When i hit a bumb, it does have that new car feel where the sound is just deadend ya know? is there a way i can check the suspension besides just bouncing the car? thanks guys i know its obscure sorry if its a waste of time.

Default Also

Do you think that stock suspension could feel that tight at 113000? if so would it be a waste to upgrade it and if not what kind would you guys use is blistein the favorite?

Default Crawl under the rear suspension, or...

jack the car up and remove a tire. Take a look at the rear shocks to see what they are.

It is possible for the suspension to be tight at this mileage if it was maintained properly, but it sounds like you might have some upgraded shocks (ride height looks stock). Either that or your type 44 needs some work (by comparison) ;-)

Default Thanks for the help...

My 5000 definently could use a stiffer ride but they dont bounce around that much just a lot softer. i wouldnt be surprised in the least to find these shocks have been upgraded, the car is sitting at the body shop because the insurance guy needs to go down there and OK everything, but i think ill get it back and definently will check the suspension out! thanks again!

Default the vibration could be a wheel out of balance (or out of round)

I had a wheel that was out of round and it would cause a vibration up until like 50 then it would go away.

Default Make sure you make it clear that the problem started after hitting the barrel.

That way it will be part of the claim.

Default Steering wheel shake?

This car has more steering wheel shake, vibration, and kickback than any other car I've owned. However it's only really apparent at speeds above 130mph. The steering is precise, the alignment is straight and true, it's just the vibration. I like it, cause I can feel every last detail on the road.

There was a short mention of this in an old magazine article comparing the urS4, 500E, and E34 M5 back in 1992 so I guess it's normal.
