I had 4 of those reasons on my old GTI
I had 4 top reasons to change the belt early on my old GTI. took avantage, had the head skimmed, and did ARP headstuds and all-new copper plated exhaust hardware at the same time. stripped 1/3 of the teeth off at 53k original miles, luckily it happened 2 weeks after waterfest and 1 week after a track day, and blew at 800rpm idle. oh well.
