OK so I got my key blank for $12 or something on the web.

hit up Ira who purports to be one of the biggest dealers and both parts and service insist 'only Audi makes the keys now and you have to order them... maybe try a VW dealer...'

can anybody confirm a greater-Boston area dealer with key cutting apparatus that is willing to USE it for customers who don't want to pay $80 for a non-smart, non-remote spare key for a 12 year old car?

I asked our parts manager here at Inskip - we can't cut sidewinder keys, but he heard that Hoffman Audi (in CT) can. You might want to give them a ring.

Great guy and can do anything - has cheap generic blanks for smart keys and most importantly a big expensive computerized sidewinder key cutting machine that makes a copy that's restored better than the worn out original.
