Auto Stopping?

We test drove another brand yesterday for comparison with the Q8. There was a safety feature where the dealer set and then took his hands off the wheel while going down the highway. No hands and no feet which was somewhat interesting. Every 30 seconds or so he was notified to bump the steer wheel to verify he was still awake and paying attention. If he didn't respond the car did some braking to sort of wake you up and he said if he didn't respond the car would actually stop. Does the Audi have this option as well and does it work the same way? Bump the wheel to keep it active? Also, we took the exit ramp which he steered into but never touched the brake. At the end of the ramp the car stopped not hitting the car in front of us. Driving around the back roads we never used the brake pedal. Car would stop to avoid hitting the car or object in front of the car. Again, is this an option on the Q8? I'm thinking this is the new standard but figured I'd ask the group.

Thanks

ON Q8 - When you are on cruise control and have feet off pedals, car steering will automatically follow the lane. If take hands off wheel, don't quote me on the exact seconds, but in about 10 seconds the car flashes warning to put hands back on wheel. After another 10-15 seconds the car will go into a shutdown mode braking and slowing the car. Sounds pretty much same as you describe.

When on cruise I take exits all the time in cruise control mode - the car will auto slow with the exit speed set for the ramp and then of course as it approaches any cars on ramp it will slow to match and stop to match. Many times I take exits still on cruise control and do not hit the brake and let the car just follow traffic off the ramp to the stop.

All sounds the same as you experienced.

Thank you. It was a different experience and won't know how much we use it until we're using it BUT it was interesting. What I really liked was that around the back roads the car was on the lookout and slowed/stopped the car in certain situations. I don't usually get distracted when driving but USUALLY is not NEVER so having big brother there to assist if necessary seems good to have.
