Mild Hybrid Tech question on range?

Stopped by audi last week and looking at the Q8 to replace X5.
One thing I am confused on is the "mild hybrid technology" and the way it was explained to me...

Can the Q8 run on electric only or is it only used in certain circumstances?
I thought I read it had a 32 mile range but somewhere else read it was only used at certain speeds to supplement engine/fueel consumption?

Can someone let me know how MHEV is actually used in a daily routine?

I know a LOT about this tech but will answer it as plain Jane as possible. It helps with the start stop system but for all intents and purposes, here on North America, it doesn't do much and is just a waste of money and space for all of us.

High speed engine turn off for the start stop system is disabled here in NA.

Real world fuel gains are marginal at best.
