My new Q8 safety systems saved the day!
With less than 300 miles on the odometer I am heading to the dealership in Hilton Head SC for a software modification to allow me to lock the vehicle with the engine running. A semi traveling ( 65 to 70 mph) six cars in front of me on a busy 3 lane highway blows a tire with large shreds of it flying everywhere. The two cars directly behind the semi try to avoid the debris, collide and spin wildly out of control. I have my driver assist settings at maximum and I don’t know which one to credit for helping me avoid a major accident but the Collision Avoidance Assist seemed to be the one in control. My seatbelt tightened, emergency flashers came on, controlled braking and steering was felt and when it appeared as though I was going to take a passenger side impact the car lifted what felt like a couple of inches on that side. When the smoke and dust settled my only damage was to the rocker panel and driver door, both caused by impact from the shredded tire. Upset with any marks on a new car but very fixable and could have been so much worse. Thank you Audi for all the safety systems built into this magnificent machine!
