I upgraded from a 2017 Q7 Prestige to the 2019 Q8 Prestige. The '17 Q7 was a major upgrade from the 2008 Q7. The technology was better , but still dated with elements from 2012 A3. The only thing new was the Virtual Cockpit. The ride was better than my '15 A8. The Q8 is different, the ride is more like the Porsche Cayenne - sporty, even on 22" tires. I don't like the start/stop function. I just smile when I get behind the wheel. I never used the third row!

Okay, stupid question, but does the Q8 not have a defeat button? I test drove one a few weeks ago and simply do not remember.

Yes, a button can be push after starting up, or when you pull back to Engage sport mode it goes off. Nothing will make it go off and stay off after restarting

So, if you go back into Comfort from Sport, the Start/Stop reengages and you'd have to push the button to turn it off again? or some such ...

No. Button works to keep off until car is restarted. Pulling back on shift lever works all the time.

Yes, the default is on, and you have to manually shut the system off each time you start the car. In my Q7 and A8, it stayed off until you placed in on.

I am a guy with very little knowledge about car electronics but I have had a guy with a top notch obd scanner reprogram my cars in ways that the dealer said cannot be done. I wonder if a private person could simply reprogram a new default on this issue? Possibly some Federal law or rule prohibiting any licensed repair person from doing it- but not prohibiting a private person.
