Q8 - Real World Fuel Economy

NICE
For the 1st 1000 miles:
- No hard accelleration
- RPMs below 3000
- No constant speeds for more than about 10 minutes
- No speeds over 65 or so
I was surprised that I couldn't find a break-in requirement in the manual; may have missed it.
I should add that I ensure I get the vehicle as it arrives from the port with no customer or dealer test drives. Some potential customers want to test maximum vehicle performance, unfortunately.

Impressive results. My last 4 new cars have all had over 650 hp so fuel economy isn't something high on my radar, but I give you props for your results and the for adhering to those strict regiments. It would be basically impossible for me to drive 1000 miles here in Dallas Texas at 65 or under without holding up traffic majorly on the highways. I will be curious to see what my car averages as I continue to put miles on it. My best trip has been 23.2 MPG so far. Thanks for the detailed response, rjabend.

May I ask is the fascination with fuel economy on the Q8 due to some belief to minimize gas consumption to save the planet, or is it purely a $$$ thing.

If other manufacturers or engines can produce better mileage than the q8 with similar vehicle wt/size/aerodynamics/torque/hp/acceleration/top speed, then that is a definite strike against the Audi Q8.

600 + 300 = 1000 :-)
Breaking in (Pg. 98)
A new vehicle must be broken in within the first
1,000 miles (1,500 km) so that all moving parts
work smoothly together, which helps to increase
the service life of the engine.
Do not drive higher than two-thirds of the maximum
permitted engine RPM during the first 600
miles (1,000 km) and do not use full acceleration.
The engine can be increased RPM gradually
during the next 300 miles (500 km).

My 3rd tank. Mixed city, traffic, freeway speeds around 70. 14.4 MPG 1 MPG improvement over last tank! At least it's improving! This particular tank I was driving per break in procedure.

I doubt anyone will believe this Q8 mileage on the same 17 mile trip as posted earlier. The new reading is with a little over 4K miles:
There was less stop & go this time, but I have trouble believing it myself This is better than I have gotten on cars with much smaller engines. If it keeps going up, I may never have to fill up again
