Q8 or X5

Some observations and discussion points. I am struggling deciding between the X5 and Q8. Is anyone else comparing these?

Both brands have good reliability and customer feedback.

What are your thoughts on front storage in the Q8? Seems like almost nothing in the Q8. X5 has much more front storage.

Q8 seems to have much more rear legroom then the X5 and I think the rear seats incline and slide.

Interior seems to be more refined in the Q8.

Remote start in the X5.

I’m in the same boat, considering the X5 and Q8.

Based on the photos, I think the Q8 looks much better on the outside. Both have nice interiors, but I wish Audi saw fit to give us the S Line interior along with the S Line exterior.

I’m not sure about the interior storage. I’m going to wait until both cars are at my local dealers so I can fully evaluate each one, including a test drive.

Q8 Tech is ahead of the X5 that doesn’t even have Android Auto. BMW says their system will be upgradeable to their next Gen.... whatever that means. The Q8 comes with Matrix headlights and Level 3 SD disabled in the US. Might be able to activate it with existing OBD tools like OBD11.

Still not clear if the Q8 will have automatic parking in US versions? Automatic hold button for hills (I still saw a dummy button in the US Q7)? Headlight washers available in all trims? Voice commands for temperature, media? A spare tire? Remote start? Will need to wait and see what's actually included for us red-headed stepchildren in the US, but BMW has those features available right now. Q8 does look sexier, if a bit smaller, and right now more color options.

On a quick build, an essentially similar, well equipped X5 appears to be significantly less expensive (~7-10 K) than a Q8.

X5 comes with Laser Headlights if you get the Executive Trim. Also comes with wireless Apple CarPlay.

Difference is probably even higher in the real world because Audi dealers don't discount their SUVs very much.

Do we know if there will be an Audi Club discount? I’m going to guess the answer is no since the A8 is excluded.

What type of discount range do they usually give? I would imagine when new models come out they would be less likely to discount at first. Would 4-6% be normal?

Ron.S 10-12-2018 02:38 PM

ACNA discount is 6% at participating dealers as I recall. My dealer will offer 3% on any model-order or inventory.. I think a large market dealer would offer more. Like you said discounts will get better over time.
