RS Q8 Alternator issues
So i Owen 4 Audis RS7 2019, RS Q8 2021,RS 4 Cab 2008, A4 2018. So oi am a devoted Audi Guy, however my RS Q8 has been in the shop since May 10th 2022 and it is due to an Alternator issue. I have been waiting for this part for months. Is anyone else having issues with Alternators???

I had the same issue, was internationally back ordered. I ended up finding one on eBay - as I was able to find the exact part number for my 2020... I lucked out, someone had it on the shelf. I'm out of warranty due to my APR tune, so I ended up saving money going that route.
My dealer told me, I could pay a $200 rush fee to get 'in front of the line'. You should ask your dealer if they will do the same, if you don't mind paying the $200. Good luck. For everyone else, there is a TSB for this, sounds like the alternator we get from OEM is no bueno. |
Is this just on the RS or SQ8 affected as well?

I wish that they offered an expedited service. I would gladly pay the 200.00. Believe me I have asked to speak to anybody in corporate and they just tell me to call the Audi care line

This seems to be a known issue on the 48 volt Alternators there is a RS6 waiting for one at me dealer along with mine.
Service said they have replaced a few already does anyone know how to find the exact part number on the unit |
I had the same issue last month.
Dealer allocated a new one in 2 days. Another day for installation. Horrible experience with the Alternator... |
Does anyone know if any errors were generated by this failure? I had multiple faults a few months ago in the MMI after I was idling for a bit in a parking lot and the start/stop system cycled about 5 times. I got the generator failure, active differential failure and a bunch of other warnings. After turning the vehicle off and on again, everything went away,
When I checked OBDEleven today (several months later), the only thing I found was below. There was no date or other information. I am trying to figure out if this is a precursor or early indication of an impending failure. I am planning a pretty long road trip in a few weeks, and don't want to get stranded https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.aud...4199eff545.jpg |
Hey everyone, I unfortunately had all these issues, you can look at my posts in the “electrical system malfunction” thread. But I have a Q8 prestige so not an S or RS but the alternator is the same on all these models.
I had an error come up on a Saturday so I made an appoint with Audi on Monday. And what they found was that my alternator went out and because it went out a few days before I could take in it and drove it the 25 miles to Audi. It from the 48v battery flat and once you drain a lithium battery flat there is a high probability it will never fully charge again. This was my case and it wouldnt charge past 11%. Had to get a new alternator and 48v system. The alternator was on back order for a couple weeks. Worst part is that my Q8 was at like 58k miles and the whole costed me 7k-8k. I have a handful of private shops around me that specialize in Audis and non of them wanted to touch this issue. Hope this helps you guys out with this info! |
Same issue on 2019 Prestige W8

Looks like my dealer wants to replace my in tank fuel pump instead of the alternator (2-3 weeks). I explained to him about getting shutdown on the freeway and they still insisted it's a failing fuel pump. Not super excited about it.
