My A4 Avant (B8) has the dreaded "Gearbox Malfunction" alert which stays on. I had my mechanic change the trans fluid at 79000 mi and he said it runs perfectly but the alert came back on and indicates that you can keep on driving. Strangely, if I start the car in neutral and then shift to drive there is no alert; its gone! As soon as I try to drive from the Park position it comes back on. Shifts are normal and smooth; no problem at all. Want to avoid the high cost dealer service.
Please advise.
