Is the Audi R8 the same as a Lamborghini?

I daily an R8, it's my only car. I can assure you it is 99% the fun of a Lambo with a steep discount and a healthy dose of an improved ride, sound deadening materiel, cheaper maintenance and every bit as fun to own. The V10 is life changing, and it's great fun on the track or in the snow. I know most people can't imagine an R8 as a daily driver for and Iowa farmer, but it's a life long dream fulfilled and it's working perfectly. I have no need for the outrageousness of a Lambo (unless you bank account is so big you have nothing else better to blow your cash on).

Also at 6500 feet....for some...the loss of power of the last Audi NA motor does put a hamper on either as a choice even with there relatively lightweight.
With elevation adjustment the R8 has 100 less HP than a Stage 1 4.0T. and the torque difference is on the order of double that.
Don't get me wrong...would still love to have an R8 and compared to an S6 it is completely different and about 700 lbs lighter, but if HP is was gets you motor running in the mountains. (pun intended) Then turbo is king.
Next gen will see a turbo R8 or Lambo with electric assist or it will be dropped altogether in favor of the E-Tron GT. In which case grab one up quick.

The Huracan Evo hands down. I actually spent quite a bit of time driving various R8s last year. We had a program called Audi on Demand in San Francisco until it was terminated late last year. This program allowed me to drive various Audis including several variants of the R8 on a pay per use basis. I took advantage of it as I was searching for what to replace my '13 RS5 with. I took the R8s on many of my favorite canyon runs, but I didn't fall in love with it. The quattro system is somewhat clinical and distributes the power strangely. I much preferred my RS5 in the canyons. It uses quattro much better and the active rear differential makes it fun. I haven't driven a Huracan as I wasn't really serious about getting a supercar. Just wouldn't work as my daily and I don't have room for a third car, but I was very impressed with the unveiling of the Evo and Lambo since the Performante has addressed many of the issues that still plague the R8 such as the strange quattro power distribution. I'd love to drive the new facelifted R8. I might change my mind if they've addressed some of what I didn't like, but I ended up getting a 2019 C63S Coupe for now. I did European Delivery and I'm currently still here in Germany enjoying the car on the Autobahn. It's something I did with the RS5 as well, but Audi stopped their ED program as well as of last year, so that was another nail in the coffin for me. However, doing ED with an R8 would have been difficult from a luggage storage standpoint. My weapons of choice are really high performance GT coupes, so cars like the C63, RS5 etc. Monsters on wheels with enough room for a weekend out of town and comfortable to drive long distances. A supercar for me would be a weekend toy that I would rarely drive.

Good point gk1! But it would be hard to turn down a Lambo even if it meant getting two other cars. I do like the Audi R8, but after reading what everyone wrote, the Huracan would be a beauty to drive. Not that I could afford either car at this time

I have not been to the strip yet, but I would think a simple Stage I RS7 might beat a stock R8 in the quarter up here or be damn close.

Thank you superswiss. I just looked up the term quattro (it's fun to learn something new). So it looks like Audi hasn't been as responsive fixing these issues that you identified, which is kind of surprising considering that the German manufacturers have a reputation for pursuing perfection. I looked at photos online of the C63S Coupe. That's a sleek looking car. Does it drive well on the Autobahn for you?
The C63S Coupe is phenomenal on the Autobahn and a phenomenal long distance cruiser. It has so much torque down low that it gains speed effortlessly. A very different experience from my RS5 and the R8. The latter two need to be wound out to gain that kind of speed and as a result are very loud at triple digit Autobahn speeds. It's great during the honeymoon period and entertaining, but tiring after a while. With the C63S I just blast along at triple digit speeds in 9th gear with the engine barely going above 4000 rpm. It's such a relaxing Autobahn rocket, but still sounds phenomenal when getting on it. AMG seems to be one of the few that figured out how to make turbo engines sound great. I got mine fully decked out with all the driving assistance features, so on long journey's with speed limits this thing practically drives itself. Even changes lanes automatically by simply turning on the indicator lights. This is a proper long distance GT and much better suited for the kind of driving I do.

I'm not sure they are viewed as imperfections by Audi. My impression I got from the R8 is that it was purposely built safe for those with more money than driving skills. If you push it on the track in skilled hands it behaves quite well, but on the canyon roads I drove it where you can at most push it to perhaps 6/10th w/o killing yourself, it pushed weirdly over the front wheels when powering out of corners. My RS5 doesn't do that. It behaves much more like an RWD car that transitions nicely into oversteer with progressive throttle input, and my C63S even more so being purely RWD. I would perhaps consider the R8 RWS. It's got very good reviews and being RWD it doesn't have these issues.
