Default 2007 Q7 MMI issue - Radio Module Failure

So I've been chasing down an issue with my Q7 MMI. System was shutting off after start up, so checking with the fiberoptic loop determined it is the radio module in the rear wheel well, below the amp. With the loop on the radio input, all functions of MMI work (NAV, bluetooth, can play CDs, etc) with the exception of getting a "radio not installed" message (due to the loop). I replaced the old radio module with a new (used) one, but when fiberoptic plugged into the new radio module, MMI still turns itself off after start up (exactly the same as with the "original" radio module). Im stumped on next steps. Anyone have any thoughts on solution.
