So I just purchased a 2015 a3 tdi to replace my passat highline tdi which was part of the vw emissions scam. The a3 didn’t come with navigation nor a back up camera so I asked the dealer to install a nav card and I would install a back up camera system later. The dealer just informed me that he contacted a number of audi dealers and they all told him that it’s not possible to install a nav system. So my question is what’s my options, the passat came with everything and I’m not liking the idea of having a stand alone nav system like TomTom and possibly not being able to install a back up camera system.

An idea I had was to replace the head unit with something that is capable of nav and back up camera but I’m not finding anything available on line.
Any input appreciated.

Alpine makes some head units specifically designed for certain Audi models. They make a couple for the A3, but I don't believe they're compatible with anything beyond model year 2010. You might be able to integrate a backup camera into your existing system, but you're probably SOL with regards to adding a nav system. To be honest, I've had nav systems in several cars and I found that using Waze on my cell phone works just as well, if not better, plus it's free.

Yeah, I have NAV on all my cars but I still use Waze on an iPad regardless because it tells me where the cops are hiding.

But doesn't it cost data to use Waze?

I only use Waze when I go on long trips which happens only once or twice a year and I have data that rolls over so it's not a big deal.
