Audi A6 sound system questions
 

i am trying to upgreade my audi sound system im wanting to start with the door speakers now my factory amp is 4 x 40watts and im trying to figure how many rms do my speakers have to be so i wont damage the speakers or the amp?

Actually what you want to know is what is the resistance? IE ohms. Also speakers with higher spl are more efficient and require less power in most cases.

Cant tell you what the A6 has as I am a new Audi owner (just ordered an S4 yesterday). More than likely will upgrade the sound myself so will let you know, but that is months away.

Don't worry about factory amp power rating so much, but if you have the Bose system, you may have issues just replacing speakers. The problem with any factory system is that they are pretty much all equalized anymore to maximize performance of cheap speakers. I'm sure some more educated person will be along shortly to set the record straight, but be prepared to bite in a bit deeper than you may have planned.

Since I have the same question, and OP started this more than a month ago, and I'm also in VA....

I have a 2008 A6 with the Bose system. I'd like to replace the sub with something better but would consider replace all bose speakers depending on difficulty/cost.
