The Emperor's New Clothes (A/K/A Autotoys Customer Service)
Rotsa Ruck finding a telephone number that will get a real person. They don't "do phone", period. I was thinking of buying from them a while back, but they took 2-3 days to respond to my e-mailed questions. Always a good indicator of future accessibility...
I keep imagining a revised scene in the Wizard of Oz where Toto pulls back the curtain to expose not the Wizard, but the one and only AutoToys employee frantically typing e-mails! |

I have bought from them in the past a few times. Yes, you will get the product at a decent price.
However, if there is a problem - you will be waiting a long time for a response. Once, a while back, I had a defective item. Reaching a person is almost impossible. But, a resourceful person CAN get someone on the phone. You have to search for SOUND CONCEPTIONS in New Jersey. Use (201) 555-1212 information. They are listed. Furthermore - they did resolve my problems. They are reliable and have great prices, but very slow. |

If you have an after-purchase issue, do you want to: A. pick up the phone, dial a toll-free number, and talk to a warm body, -or- B. block off 30-60 minutes of blood pressure-spiking "being resourceful" time playing detective and listening to Muzak on your own dime? AutoToys would need to be a hell of a lot cheaper than the next best priced customer-friendly retailer to get me to overlook the electronic buffer zone that they've created... |
