Can I update MMI 3G myself?

Can someone help me with the update procedure and now can I acquire a copy of the CD/SD for the upgrade. As more I read I read about upgrade DYI I understand less.
BTW I have a 2012 A6, which I bought brand new and never update the maps.

Audi A8 2017 3G
I'm looking to upgrade the software on my Audi MMI to allow it to have CarPlay, does anyone know if this is possible from an SD card update, or would the whole system have to be replaced?

Which MMI system ? MMI3G (Basic, High, or Plus) or MIB ? What year & model car ? You don't give any information to determine how to proceed. --g
