Default Diamond Audio HEX or JL Audio XR series speakers?

I am getting a new A4 and of course, a new system in it. I am looking at the Diamond Audio Hex S600a/S600s series ($400) and also the Diamond Audio M561 ($270) For the JL Audios I am interested in the XR650CS ($280) Any preferences to which of these you like better? I know it is important for me to check out these speakers on my own, but I just wanted some of your opinions. Also, I like a 6.5 that can take alot of power. I think the diamonds can but I'm not sure about the JL's.
Thanks alot!!!

Default FWIW, I have the 6.5" hex (aluminum tweets) and love'em.

I have never auditioned JL so I really couldn't comment on them.

Default I'd say Diamond hex; I have the Diamond Hex s500s components, and they are amazing...

After I had them installed, they were initially way too bright for my taste, but after letting the speakers break-in they sound perfect (I also adjusted the crossovers to the lowest setting). They are super smooth, and acoustic guitar sounds especially good. My $.02...

Siberian, did you fit the 6.5" (S600s) hex into an audi a4? Was it a custom job? If so, what is a rough estimate to pay for that kind of install.

Default here ya go...

to answer your question, it was a totally custom job. There is no standard bracket or adapter on the market to accomodate this install. I did the whole thing myself and it involved a lot of custom fiberglass fabrication and hacking holes in my door panels with a dremel tool. This was my first attempt at it and they turned out *okay*. Basically I built the pods and installed them to the outer surface of the door panel so they protrude slightly out of the door. However I did have to cut out large holes in the door panel to allow the magnets to pass through. The whole time I had to make sure the pods didn't stick out too far so as to prevent the glove box from opening. Mine *just* fit with a couple millimeters of clearance.

Anyway, If you were to have a custom shop do something like this, expect to pay minimum of $500 per door... and possibly much more depending on how far you want to take it. Also understand that this is an irreversible mod. Once you start there's no turning back.

Now I have heard of a couple of guys who have successfully mounted a 6.5" behind the door in the original mounting location with some creative dremel work, but I don't know what kind of speakers they used. They would probably have to have a pretty low profile magnet in order to pull that off. I don't see that happening with the Diamond Hex as they have pretty beefy magnets.
