Default Cold (bad) solder joint, flaky op-amp, or a wire strand causing a short...

...I've seen all of these. It can get to be more trouble than it's worth. Once you've checked off the "easy" things, it may be time to get a new one.

Default update...I was told to check out the bass to see if it was the cause...

I haven't gone as far as to crank it up without the sub just yet, but I noticed that when turning the bass up on the headunit, I can get the amp to shut off. Mind you I have the bass and treble way down....both are about 4 clicks from the left. If I play with that EQ at all I bring them down. This bass idea makes sense becuase the one song that will always shut off the amp is a Ja Rule song. I wonder if I have something set wrong on the bass channel.

Default couple of thoughts...

1) could be a short or crossed wire in the sub. This will make checking wiring much easier since you've now potentially isolated the cause.

2) still might be the internal circuitry of the amp.

3) might still be wiring at other points of the car if there is a loose connection since the vibrations from the bass would trigger the short.

Default That's strange..What kind of amp?....

Anyways, if there are 2 grounds, they should share a COMMON GROUND, also, ground it independently from anything else grounded in your car ( i.e. interior lights, brake lights, etc. ), also power wire should be combined...

Default sony XM 7557 mobil es

I am pretty sure at this point it's not my power connections. I have 1 4 ga from the battery that splits to 2 8 ga to the amp. Both grounds go to the same spot. I think my problem at this point is not having my rear deck speakers in yet (and trying to blast the crap out of the rest of the system for some volume) and not having having the level of each channel high enough on the amp. WHen I turned up the sub channel from 40% to 50% the sudden shut offs dissapeared. I just read that I should crank my head unit up all the way and adjust the amp levels until I get distortion. Then turn it down a little. I think constantly pushing the headunit to get more volume (when I should have been pushing the amp) was the problem. Who knows.

https://forums.audiworld.com/audio/msgs/21831.phtml</a
