Default need help...

hey guys, i was just wondering, for the B6 A4 1.8T with the bose sound system, if one was to hook up a 1000 watt JL amp with 2 12inch JL subs, would it be really loud that it would overpower the stock mids and highs so all you'd hear is the bass?

TIA - Dan

Default It could be overpowering, but if you set your gains correctly it wont...

Setting gains is the key, first set your gains at the lowest setting, then turn the stereo on a loud as it will go untill you hear slight distortion from the regular speakers, then raise the gains on your amp untill you are happy with the bass output. ALSO, remove the rear 6.5" speakers. In the Bose system, they only play bass as they are the factory subs and you dont need those f you are putting in JL subs. Removing them will allow the bose amp to send more clean power to the rest of the speakers. Also removing them will allow bass from the trunk to play through into the cabin of the car much easier improving bass clarity, response, and staging.

Default oh ok, thanks, but just one more thing..

my friend told me to leave the stock subs in my car cuz he said it will sound really good inside the car with the JL's and the stock subs together. And if i do take out the stock subs, and then like you said more clean power will goto the rest of the speakers in the car. But wouldnt that extra power make the speakers distort at high volume levels? The bose system is 215 watts i believe, how much of that power goes the the subs?

TIA - Dan

Default The stock subs are 100w

B ut you'll be able to run the HU at something like -4 bass, thus allowing more power to the cabin speakers without distortion

Default minor correction...

in the B6, the factory "sub" is a single 8" woofer, mounted either in the rear deck (sedan) or right trunk panel (avant). The rear 6.5" speakers are in the doors, and you definitely don't want to remove them as they are full-range.

Removing the sub though is fine, for reasons stated above.

Default I was thinking B5, DOH!

in any case, remove the rear 8" sub for the same effect

Default Thats ok, thanks though...hehe and just another q....

im not sure exactly how the bose system is wired up but if is there an output on the bose deck specifically for the sub? If thats the case, could i just remove the stock sub like you said and somehow connect the new JL subs to spot where the stock sub used to be connected to? The reason being is because i dont want to buy an aftermarket deck because i like the the consistency of the dash, and i dont want to mess it up with some rainbow coloured deck.

TIA - Dan

There is a good possibility that you will over power the current stock speakers.
