power question....can i power both a 800 watt amp and a 250 watt power supply without worry?
Right now I have a MTX Thunder 405 (800 watts) sitting in my closet waiting to be installed. I'm planning on putting in a 150 watt (though I may go 250, but chances are I'll only need 150) power supply to power up a mini-itx computer.
I'm worried that the stock battery/alternator won't be sufficient. Should I trade someone for a 500 watt (just a guess) amp to be on the safe side? Or should I be ok?
I don't think neither the amp nor the powersupply (especially not the 250 watt) will ever be run near their power limit, so if I don't run them full blast would that make it safer in terms of battery drain/alternator use?

You should be good...you're talking about a max draw of around 1000w...you won't ever sustain for...
a long enough time to cause significant electrical problems with your car. More than likely you'll use around a 1/3 of it continuously. You may have trouble with dimming though. I'm running a compariable setup with JL equipment (500/1 and a 300/4) with no problems whatsoever... hope that helps...
oh yeah...and MAKE SURE you're running a sufficient gauge of wire for both power and ground...

what are specs for that p.c.? where is mount?...
I don't mean to answer a question with a question.
I think you should do fine. If anything buy a cap for the amp. I don't think its needed though
where are you putting the monitor at?
Good luck!

mini-itx power requirements?
do you really need 150w for the mini-itx board? The VIA Epia certainly should be able to get away with, say, 60W or less of DC power. If you're just powering a board and a hard drive, I'd imagine much less than that.

Are you using 0/1 gauge or 4 gauge?
I am considering going the 500/1 and 300/4 route myself and I will have a 1 farad cap in as well.
I know the 500/1 requires 4 gauge power wire. Can I feed 800 watts with 4 gauge from the battery?
TIA,

It's the VIA M10000, 1gighertz mb, 256 ram, and right now it only has a 512meg solid state hd
That is until I finish everything else and through a bigger harddrive in there for media storage.... and I'd like to mount the pc up front, but it'll probably be going in the trunk. I picked up a 7" touchscreen vga lcd that I'll be putting in place of the radio after I move the climate control down to where the ashtray is. It's going to be a similar setup to the famous one on the B5 A4 forum, he beat me to it.

Link to VIA's website for the motherboard

I've seen plenty of people easily get away with the 60W sproggy for the board alone...
But I'm going to fully load it. DVD Drive, GPS, Radio/TV, Wi-Fi, and possibly a sound card. I haven't done the math yet but I could probably get by with the rail mod doubling the 60W "sproggy" to 120W especially because I won't be using all of that at once...
but Opus has a nice 150W power supply that's designed perfectly for what I need, although I heard it's a little expensive. I'm still looking for alternatives.

At mp3car.com...
I saw they have a dc-dc 12v auto shutdown thing.
Will that work with a laptop?
Do you need a dc-dc power supply? how about setup of p.c with a power inverter and regular atx powersupply, would this product at mp3car.com work with my dream setup?
I would ask them but they want me to register, that is b.s. for one question!
Thanks
