Default is there a difference in the headunit between the bose and non-bose systems?

i know that there are differences in the speakers/amps, etc, but are the actual headunits the same?

Yes, but not a HW difference - one ground wire added to Bose, and radio coded to say "Bose" on power

if you take a uni from a non-bose car, and put it into a bose car, will the headunit be 'bose' then?

Default The output will be Bose-flat rather than EQ'd, but it won't neccesarily display BOSE on powerup

That MIGHT take a Vag Com to do.

But the grounded wire definitely gives you a flat response.

"Boseing" or "De-Boseing" can be done with a VAG-COM.

Default Have you measured it? I have, and the Vag Com didn't change anything.

Only grounding the Bose pin changed the response.

Default what i'm getting at is...my car is equipped with bose, but i'm swapping headunits out (more)

do i have to worry about getting a bose or non-bose headunit? obviously my car is wired/amped for bose.

what i'm getting from these responses is that if you take ANY audi b6 symphony II headunit, bose or non-bose, and put it into a bose equipped car, the output will in effect be 'bose-like'. however, the unit MAY not display bose on startup.

does this sound accurate?

furthermore, if i do have a unit that is bose coded, then it will definitely show bose on powerup if put into a bose equipped car.

Avincar is correct on this. I have tried it in our demo car.

so performance-wise it will be bose, yet, it may not display bose.

Default Not disputing your point. Only pointing out that I've read numerous posts...

...about the need to change some VAG-COM settings in order to Bose/De-Bose the head unit. A search on this should yeild results (either here or in the VAG-COM forum).

Below is one link a quick search revealed. I know there are many more on this topic out there.

One link a search turned up...

Quick Reply: is there a difference in the headunit between the bose and non-bose systems?
