is there a difference in the headunit between the bose and non-bose systems?
i know that there are differences in the speakers/amps, etc, but are the actual headunits the same?

The output will be Bose-flat rather than EQ'd, but it won't neccesarily display BOSE on powerup
That MIGHT take a Vag Com to do.
But the grounded wire definitely gives you a flat response.

what i'm getting at is...my car is equipped with bose, but i'm swapping headunits out (more)
do i have to worry about getting a bose or non-bose headunit? obviously my car is wired/amped for bose.
what i'm getting from these responses is that if you take ANY audi b6 symphony II headunit, bose or non-bose, and put it into a bose equipped car, the output will in effect be 'bose-like'. however, the unit MAY not display bose on startup.
does this sound accurate?
furthermore, if i do have a unit that is bose coded, then it will definitely show bose on powerup if put into a bose equipped car.

Not disputing your point. Only pointing out that I've read numerous posts...
...about the need to change some VAG-COM settings in order to Bose/De-Bose the head unit. A search on this should yeild results (either here or in the VAG-COM forum).
