Upgrade old iPod or change formats for use with Audi MMI?
Hi folks. I am looking to purchase a current/future model Audi for my next vehicle complete with the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay features of the MMI. I currently keep all of my music files on an old iPod Nano for listening while driving. The Nano is on its last leg and needs to be upgraded as it is failing and is out of space. I'm trying to determine if I should:
1) Upgrade to a new iPod touch
2) Use my Android phone for music
3) Change formats to a USB drive or SD card
I want to make sure whatever decision I make is compatible with the Audi MMI. I am leaning towards option 1 because I am familiar with iTunes for managing my music library, and I have a number of smart playlists I have created over the years that I would like to retain. However, I am not sure how having an Apple device and an Android device (my main phone for navigation and all else) would work with the MMI. I am open to changing formats so long as I can easily preserve my playlists and smart playlists. I appreciate any comments from folks who have experience in this department. Thanks!

SD cards. New(er) MMIs can handle 2 128GB cards. I outgrew my IPod and can now have my entire music collection in the car with room to grow. Playlists are supported. Smart playlists are player specific, not sure if MMI has them. Voice search works, too!
edit: Smart playlists should work - the ones copied to the SD card.
