So everywhere I search I find conflicting information.

We just purchased a 2016 A5 and only got one remote (what the hell do people do with them?!?).

But instead of buying another remote I'm thinking the valet/emergency key (see B below) would be sufficient.

Item B is what I am referring to as the valet key.

But the dealer in Tulsa wants $65 to program it and the dealer in OKC says it doesn't require programming. What's the deal?

So the answer is: Yes.

Without programming the key would only open the door. To use as an emergency key that will start the car requires programming.
