Default Wireless Carplay on Cars with Wired Carplay Capability

Hey all. I have been looking for answers here but hoping you guys / gals can help shed some light on this issue.

I have a 2017 Q7 and a 2018 S6. Love both cars and love using Apple Carplay on both of them, although they both only support wired Carplay. Is there any aftermarket solution out there that I could use for wireless carplay? I don't want to change the receivers / screens / etc. I am just hoping there is something out there, maybe like a dongle, that connects to my phone wirelessly but connects to the car using the USB cable and can enable wireless Carplay.

Let me know and apologies if this issues has been beaten to death already.

Short Answer — No! Apple has very stringent “rules” as far as how wireless CarPlay can be implemented and — at this point anyway — 3rd party interfaces are not permitted. In the future, they may change their stand if there is a “secure” way to implement Wireless CarPlay.

Sorry.

Thanks John. That's what I was afraid of. Oh well, no big deal at all.

When I first got my 2019 A4 and was connecting my iPhone XS for the first time, it prompted me if I wanted to enable Wireless CarPlay. Does anyone know why?

Does iOS believe my A4 is wireless CarPlay capable?

Could it be that it’s detecting the A4 wireless hotspot?

If it prompted you to enable wireless carplay, then you have that capability. I was on a 2019 A6 loaner and had the same pop-up and then carplay was on the dash wirelessly. Every time I started the car, carplay would pop-up automatically. This is why I asked about the capability to go wireless in cars that are currently wired. But yes, you should be able to go wireless with carplay once you're paired using bluetooth!

Currently traveling and will have to test when I get back home. Thus far, I’ve been plugging in my iPhone XS to get CarPlay.

No matter what I do now, I cannot get the iOS Wireless CarPlay option to display on my iPhone XS again.
