Default Milltek Sport Wakefield Park Showdown Event Report...

Hello Motorsport Fans,

After a day of sub zero temperatures, icy cold winds and a top temp in the sun of a paltry 11deg (before the wind chill) the Milltek Sport Wakefield Park Event Report is here.

You could definitely tell which competitors had a turbocharged car by the ear to ear grins on peoples faces...well the competitors with heated seats were also smiling large with a heat setting of level five the order of the day - even with a three layer race suit.

With a number of VAG Motorsport Superstars choosing the warmth of a doona over the adrenalin rush of the circuit, a number of new and surprisingly fast entrants made their mark on Wakefield Park and the VAG Motorsport Series earning valuable points, prizes and closing the gap in the leader board.

With the absence of David `Ratty' Appleby - the fastest VAG MS Competitor to date with two `Circuit Breaker' titles to his name at Eastern Creek and Wakefield Park - a new challenger to the title, namely, Massimo Bamonte, had his eyes on the prize...as Christopher Lambet would say "...there can be only one!"

With the fastest Oran Park South Circuit Lap Time under his belt from the last round, all eyes were on the timing tower as lap times began to fall closer and closer to the 1 min 12 Second bracket - and the record did fall with a new time of 1:12:0956 now etched in the history books. Congratulations Massimo!

The fastest front wheel drive time of 1:13:8250 by Stuart Low in a VW Golf also fell with a new record set by Nicholas Strange - also in a VW Golf GTi - with a new fastest FWD circuit time of 1:12:6860! I'm amazed he didn't actually take off with the speed he was pushing around the circuit as he was also faster than this circuits previous best of 1:13:0770 set by David at the last Wakefield Meeting...what are in these little VW's?

Two new VW Polo contenders also stirred up the circuit with very respectable times recorded in the 1:18 and 1:20 second range giving the Renault Clio group a run for their money...almost there guys, you can do it.

A triplet of VW Golf MKV R32's (say that three times really fast) also put on a great show for the spectators, with the exhaust note from the team Rennenhaus entry as it bounced of the armco screaming down the main straight was music to everyone's ears - absolutely euphoric!

Special Mention must also go to Ian Shuttle for inspiring young accountants everywhere, by bringing his brand new Mercedes Black (one of only 32 destined for Oz) to the circuit - much to the delight of fans...just a shame no Audi RS4 was present to challenge him and with a time of 1:11:0680 I'm not sure one could. It definitely was a crowd favourite though...hmmm AMG.

The white BMW 1 series of Jeffery Morton also receives a special mention with lap time of1:10:6340. Not only was this thing fast, it looked gorgeous with a set of Oz Racing Ultra Leggera wheels in matt black...white BMW 1 Series + black Italian racing wheels = stunning!

With only one more round to go at Wakefield Park competition is definitely looking hotter than a R32 heated seat...make sure you mark the next event in you calendar.

With the next - and second last - round of the VAG Motorsport Series just over a month away, namely the Meguiar's / Luqui Molly Oran Park GP, there has never been better time to come to the circuit and experience your vehicle at speed in a safe, controlled, police radar free environment...especially with the prizes on offer from Mark and the Liqui Molly Team. Hope to see you there.

Special Tanks to Narada, Tim, Daniel, Ivan and the team from Circuit Club, Lisa from Natsoft (timing), David Atkins from Peak Performance (Main Event Sponsor), Wakefield Park Staff and especially Ben Porter from Luff Motivation / Driving Australia (current formula V Champion) and last but not least, Karting Extraordinar Dave Dalrymple for an excellent day of high octane European excitement.

Stay tunned for the Leader board and Full event photography by MatthewMead.net in the coming days.
