Hey Phil,
It's been quite a long time since I had the time/space/energy to get into detailing any of my vehicles. Quick question:
I picked up an old Saturn for my daughter to use as her "learning car" and when I'm convinced she can drive I'll get her a decent B5 or B6 A4 to drive around. The car I picked up for her has rather bad swirl marks and scratches all over the place. They appear like they would buff out, however, a quick pass with PO85RD only slightly improved things. I've also got some PF106 laying around, but I suspect that wouldn't be much better. Any suggestions on a product that's a little more aggressive?
I'm using a Griots 3rd gen 6" orbital.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
p.s. I'm also just about out of Menzerna FMJ. What would you recommend I replace it with?

Ritz,
I would consider moving to Menzerna FG400 and Meg's Microfiber Cutting Pads. (make sure you buy the correct size, these shown are 6 inch.)

Three times I've snagged a cert used car. Every single time after one wash I see scratches and flaws, two washes more. Scuttlebutt from the guys who just handled the paint restoration on the A6 is that dealers are using some kind of silicone based material to cover it all up, and they know exactly what they're doing. I'm not upset very much about the fact that they did it, because the flaws are usually minor, but what amazes me is that when I call them on it they just deny it, and every time they always ask me if I'm sure the car wash or something else didn't do the damage I notice. Yeah, I'm sure.
So, here's my question. I'm about to go buy my son a car. How can I wipe off or otherwise defeat this trick on a lot? Wash it during a test drive? Run my hand over with a plastic bag covering my fingers? Bat Signals?

you can use an IPA wipe down its rubbing alcohol mixture that will remove the fillers.
spray let it set up for a minute wipe off, use a flash light and check the paint, led 200 lumens plus should do the trick.
