Car Wax Comparison Test
I've accumulated quite a collection of car waxes and polishes over the years so I thought I would share a test I quickly did today. I applied various car waxes to a painted metal cover and put them through some torture testing.
Before I discuss the results, I want to say that I am an EagleOne Wax-As-U-Dry user. It's so damn easy to use that I am able to use it every time I wash the car. Despite its poor showing in these tests, I'm going to continue to use it, but will now add the occasional coat of Mothers Carnauba Wax when I have time. The important thing to consider when selecting waxes is, what's the point of buying the best wax if you never use it? Ease of application is important.
Here are the products I tested followed by my ratings out of 10 for a) Initial appearance, b) aged appearance, and c) ease of application.
Now for the scores:
Mothers Carnauba Wax (paste): 9, 8, 3
Mothers Cleaner Wax (liquid): 8, 5, 5
Mothers Sealer and Glaze (liquid): 8, 6, 5
EagleOne Wax-As-U-Dry (spray): 6, 1, 10
Liquid Lustre (liquid): 6, 1, 5
Turtle Wax Extreme (liquid): 10, 6, 5
Liquid Crystal (liquid): 7, 2, 1

Some comments on the products:
Liquid Lustre: Yes, this is the product made famous on those late night infomercials. I bought my bottle at Wal-Mart. It has a strong solvent odor which means it probably has lots more organic solvents than the other waxes I tested. I would not recommend it as it may be harsh on paint. On the positive side it does not leave too much white residue like most waxes.
EagleOne Wax-As-U-Dry: This product goes on easy and leave absolutely no residues. It's okay for rubber, plastics and glass.
Liquid Crystal: I read that this is a Turtle Wax product. I don't think it is available anymore. However, there are comparable non-carnauba products available that I imagine are similar. This stuff is very difficult to apply. Its appearance seems to diminish with time but I get the feeling that in terms of protection and water beading, it will outlast all the other products.

I like your testing approach, and the torture series is kind of neat, BUT...
I think we're testing a complete series of garbage products on this one. Even without your thorough attack I wouldn't have trusted any of those on any car nor would I have expected them to protect my paint in the least.
So, while quite entertaining, I think ultimately the selection of materials was flawed enough to make the results moot.

Re: Liquid Lustre sucks?! lol...
It may have protected against lasers and fire on the infomercial but it seems powerless against dish soap.
Seriously, it's tough getting good quality waxes in Canada. You have to mail order them from the US (which is a pain) or seek out specialty stores that are more than happy to charge 2x the mail order price. However, there is one native product called "World's Best Wax". I've read about it but never tried it. Has anybody here ever tried or seen it?
