It Finally Arrived
My new Q7 is here and they want to sell me a ceramic coating but can't I just use a good wax myself? What's the best one?

I'm a big fan of ceramic coatings, but would never purchase from a dealer. If you want to go that route find a reputable detailer in your area to do the coating. Will cost less and be better quality.
That said nothing wrong with a traditional wax/sealant. Just have to re-apply 3-4 times per year |
As mentioned above, a good ceramic coating will last around 3 years versus traditional wax which needs to be re-applied every 3 months. CQuartz is a good ceramic coating. There are some paint protection products that last only a year. The better ones last for around 3 years to 4 years depending on how often the car is exposed to the elements.

Definitely do not apply ceramic coating at the dealership, they use very basic coating and the quality of the application will not be good!

Agree with all above.. don’t do it from a dealer if you decide to go with it. For me it depends on the color... colors like white, silver and beige hide a lot and can keep them looking great pretty easily... black is an entirely different animal.. might be worth the ceramic. The ceramic by itself is not expensive.. it’s the labor involved along with some othe misc materials like polished and buffer pads. I just did a vehicle myself and it cost me about 160 in materials... but it took me about 10 hours total for an SUV. Getting it done at a detail shop for a new vehicle should run between 700-1000 bucks |
