Default how much would it cost to paint a car the same color?

just a respray and gloss... looking for a ball park figure... a body shop quoted me with $900 non-factory and approx $2k factory.

is non-factory paint a good idea?

Default Honestly, BOTH figures sound really cheap to me.

A good paint job lies in the prep, sanding details, trim removal, masking, what parts are they leaving on, taking off, etc.

I have had cars painted the same color and still stripped to practically the shell. Remove headlights, tailights, badges, sill plates, all trim, bumpers, door handles, side window trim, wipers, squiter nozzles, etc. You can often leave the windshield in and lift the rubber...but sometimes not well enough.

All of this takes time and time is money. But these make for a quality, seamless paintjob that "doesn't LOOK like a repaint".

Find out what they are going to do in DETAIL.

And like a doctor...get another opinion and check references! This is VERY important!

Default Me too. I'm planning to respray the hood and front bumper this summer (she turns 6 this July) and

am hoping I can get just that for under $500.

Default The German auto painting process produces a high gloss, durable paint that is applied...

in many separate coats. If you want the same quality paint on your Audi as the original, than use the factory paint process. If you don't care, then take it to Earl Schieb, Maaco or any other place offering their "$299" special paint job. $2.0K for a factory paint job may be a little low - check to see if they are using an authentic German auto painting system.

The hood on my '96 A6 ran $700 several years ago. Hope you can find one at your price.
