Default Reconditioning worn interior surfaces

I'm in the market to replace my '98 A4 Avant, so I've been looking at listings and some cars. One car had the (seemingly) common VAG problem with paint rubbing or flaking off of switch gear like the lighting dial left of the steering wheel, and the ESP button on the center console. But what surprised me was that the soft "pebble" finish on a lot of the non-leather interior surfaces between the front seats appeared worn and abraded - like half the "pebble" coat had been sanded off. I hadn't seen anything like that before.

Anybody seen that before? Anybody know how such a thing can be fixed?

Thanks!

Given the lack of response, I guess I'll go with "replace all affected parts" and call it a day...
