Default What is the proper / safe way to strip paint from calipers?

My calipers are currently painted, but I want to strip them clean and start over. I am worried about the rubber parts, etc.

Can you suggest products and methods.

Thanks!

Default By proper,I take it you will remove the calipers from the car and

remove all of its components, then proceed to sandblast them and then apply a quality epoxy paint or high temperature paint with a clear coat !!

Default If you do them by hand (non-sandblasting)

The picture shows a caliper that was stripped. I changed color from black to red.

Default certain brake cleaners won't hard rubber/plastic bits...

you have to read the can, because there are brake cleaners that will eat through any rubber/plastic.

Default Dremel with grinding and wire brush attachments works well.

The Dremel has plenty of grind to smooth the caliper surface and then remove anything that will get in the way of epoxy (or hi-temp paint) binding. I agree with S4Bloom, just mask carefully, use brake cleaner (not all are "rubber-safe"), and work slowly. Its actually a fairly simple job, and doesn't take too much time (apart from curing/drying).
