I swapped the shifter with a U.K. model, had the shaft cut down one inch by Mishar (West coast), and also switched the shifting sequence (+ -) to sequential shifting, pulling the shifter as if you were on a motorcycle or rally type car. Runs and looks great.

Also what's the chrome ball beside the starter button?

It's a very easy swap for the unit and the + - but the shift rod swap takes a little more time. Mishar has detailed instructions posted. The chrome ball is a mount for a cell phone by Nite Ize. An excellent product.
